Well what can I say!  This would have to be one of my most favourite fields trips!  A once in a lifetime opportunity! I am so thankful to the people at Canada Running Series for making this happen.  All the #STWM Digital Champions and Community Leaders were invited for an exclusive invite only run and tour of Twitter Canada HQ followed by a presentation from Chris Doyle the Director of Media leading Twitter’s partnerships for Canada in TV, sports, news, music, gov and more.

The evening started with me taking the GoTrain and man am I ever thankful I made that decision!  There were others that chose to drive and because of awful traffic and collisions on the highway they were not able to fully attend:(

The train got me real close to our secret destination downtown and it was only a short 10min power walk!  Turned out to be a nice warm up before the run!  Although have you ever tried to walk quickly in Birkenstocks?  Its no easy feet feat and I felt my shins start to tighten up a little!   Thankfully I got there early enough to stretch them and change into my runners!

Next up it was a brief welcome from Race Director Alan Brookes and a description of the run and route from Community Leader Willaim Chaupiz from Night Terrors Run. Then we were off!

Its not always easy to run through the busy streets of Toronto for a suburb runner like me but I was able to hold my own run ahead and snap this quick shot 🙂

The run went well at a nice pace (check out my Garmin data Garmin Connect)  with a few stops for traffic lights and most importantly photo ops!

When the run was complete and high fives given we moseyed on over to the uber secret location to meet with Chris Doyle.   Once inside, the perfect post run spread of food and snacks was waiting for us; bonus!  Many of us were meeting each other face to face for the first time so this was a great chance for us to introduce ourselves, mingle and, of course, snap some more pics!

This looked like the perfect spot to lay down right after my run

Man did we ever press Chris to keep these mugs but alas they were for staff only and not to be removed 😦

11537700_462663613909038_3113653067894358993_n

If I worked here I would never eat breakfast at home again!

Then it was time for Chris’ presentation!

Chris did an amazing job of presenting some Twitter best practices, his involvement with Twitter Canada’s sports partnerships, and, an introduction to their new app Periscope.  Periscope is an app where you can live broadcast any event you like!  This is the next level of SM sharing.  So now instead of text or picture based post you can now bring people right into your world with sound and video!  I am very excited about the future possibilities of this!  I can foresee many people broadcasting parts of their #STWM  race or even the triumph and reunions at the finish line.  The possibilities of this really are endless and subject only to the limits of your imagination!

Next it was time to tour the rest of their office!

Once again thank you to Twitter Canada for inviting us into your home!  Thank you Canada Running Series for orchestrating this and accepting me as a digital champion!  I’m really looking forward to sharing my first marathon journey and interacting with other #STWM runners! 10446674_463853833790016_8674201951774378793_n

🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑Well after a little more than 10 months it's time for this little birdie to leave the nest and fly on his own! It's been a long process with many ups and downs. 🙏❤️huge thanks to my wife who was still recovering from major surgery and was basically a single mom right up to Christmas while I was attending the in-class portion. She encouraged me, supported me and kept everything at home and with the kids running smoothly. Then during my clinical and preceptorship phase we had to deal with the illness and eventual passing of her father. There were many times where I needed to be with her to support her and I couldn't :(. @karenvanmil, you are amazing, supportive, strong and I couldn't have done it without you! ❤️544
🙏 thank you @edwonian for precepting me. We had some fun times, frustrating times where I felt like I made a mistake and could do this and times of immense learning and growth. You broke it down, kept on me to improve and gave me strategies constantly self reflect and always find ways to be better and find improved ways to treat my patients. I wouldn't be where I am today with your wisdom patience and experience; thank you!!! 🙏thank you @i_carter78 I had the pleasure of learn long a ton with you as your partner over all these years that helped me to enter this program. Then I was lucky enough to return to your for my consolidation. I hope I can be half the medic you are. I have learned a ton with you these last few months and you pushed me from "I think" to "I know". We've become great friends over these years and I hope for that to continue even though I may be moving to a different platoon. Thank also for all the help and work you put in on the sidelines for me this past year! First off thank you everyone for the support, words of encouragement and donations! I was honestly worried about this race because of my lack of training but it was, surprisingly, much better than I thought! I ran it on intervals of 11:1 and tried to maintain a 9:30 min/mile and I met my goal of under 1hr30mins! Already looking forward to next year!

@oakley My #flatrunner for tomorrow's @raceforkidsto 15k. Thanks again to all those that donated so far! There's still time to donate as well! Check out my profile for the link! You'd be helping a ton of kids get hooked up with the resources they need! 🏃Race kit days are fun!🏃 :) @raceforkidsto may be tomorrow morning but there's still time to make a donation and help some kids! The link is in my profile! :) This has not been a great year for me to get out and get runs logged. I forced myself to get out tonight after two long days at work with shift overrun overtime. Mentally I think I needed it. I also have the @raceforkidsto 15k coming up this weekend and I wanted to get a handle of where I was at. While I am not happy with my level of training and fitness I know I'll be able to complete this race. This race is important to me and I run it every year because of the great things it does for our youth! The program your donations support assists youth to navigate the very complicated mental health system. Youth suffering with mental health problems is something I see at work frequently and, unfortunately, more and more every shift. Your donations go a long way to helping these kids. Huge thank you to those of you who have donated already! If you would like to make a donation in my name the link is in my IG profile. The @raceforkidsto is now officially sold out! There is still tons of time to donate and help some kids though!
