Run Walk Ride with me at the @HSFRide this year & let’s #CreateSurvivors together!

Did you know:

Heart disease and stroke kill one Canadian every 7 minutes, making it a leading cause of death and disability in Canada.

Today, more than 90 per cent of Canadians who have a heart attack and more than 80 per cent who have a stroke and make it to hospital will survive. Last year, the Heart and Stroke Foundation helped create 165,000 survivors.

As a Paramedic I, far to often, see the devastating effects of these two conditions on my patients and their families.  So when I was asked to be an ambassador for the all new run component of the Becel Heart and Stroke Ride for Heart I agreed without hesitation.

This year they have a goal to raise $6.8million.  Funds rasied will support world class research as well as health education and advocacy to help the Foundation meet its mission to prevent disease, save lives and promote recovery from heart disease and stroke.  I plan on doing everything I can to help them meet that goal!  But I need your help by either joining me or donating!

If you’d like to participate with me, then free up your calendar on June 5th for this unique opportunity to ride, run or walk on a traffic-free Gardiner and DVP, help create more survivors from heart disease and stroke.  Join 15,000 cyclists and ride 25, 50 or 75km traffic-free on the Gardiner and Don Valley Parkway. Or participate in our new 5km/10km Run or 5km Walk. It’s a whole new way to experience the magic of this landmark Toronto event.

Your selfie game will be strong with a backdrop like this!

By supporting the Ride you will be helping to create more survivors.  Over the past 60 years, with the Foundation’s help, the death rate from heart disease and stroke has declined by more than 75 per cent, with nearly 40 per cent of this decrease occurring in the past decade.

By deciding to participate and train for this event you will also be taking charge of your own health and help to prevent a cardiac event or stroke from occurring to yourself!  Lack of physical activity is a risk factor for heart disease and stroke, and cycling/running/walking is a great example of a physical activity that is fun and easy to do.   It is recommended that Canadians get 150 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-physical activity each week so get signed up and start training!  Here are some other videos to help motivate you!

We never realized how hard this tragedy would hit us. 😭. Can’t imagine what these families are going though. #PutYourSticksOut #HumboldtStrong
Papa was always so proud of Noah in everything he did especially his hockey. He always wanted to be there for his games and practices; you could always see the pride in his eyes and they way he spoke about how he was progressing. We lost papa last summer to cancer and it made Noah’s first season as a select player difficult because he wasn’t with us to experience this incredible season and Noah’s exponential increase in skills. Noah is raising money for the pedal for hope campaign in honour of his papa by shaving his head at his school. Please consider a donation ,no amount is too small, and help him reach his goal. You can also help by sharing this post with your friends. Thanks for reading 🙂 The link is in my profile

Just tried out the new @underarmourca #UAHOVR #uahovrphantom shoes! These shoes have the same great heal cusion/bounce as the #uahovrsonic that I love. I also like that there is no tongue to pull up on these and you just slide you foot right in! The colour is super hot and bright however they will get dirty fast so be aware if you don’t like your shoe getting dirty. But, if you don’t like getting your shoes dirty then why are you running outside? Lol. I did find my heals slid a bit in the shoe but if you have great socks like I do then you shouldn’t have a problem. One other thing I noticed about this shoe is that the toe box is not very roomy so if you have insoles that you like to run in or your Fort requires extra room then you will find your toes hitting the top of the shoes. I ended up with a sore big toe on my nail after this run. I’ll have to use less of an insole or none at all when I use this shoe again. The shoe had great give and elasticity around the whole shoe so it really fit nicely around the top of my foot. I found there was good ankle support and didn’t notice any rolling when I transitioned to the uneven grass from the sidewalks and roadways. Overall another great shoe from #UnderArmor and I would highly recommend it when picking new shoes. As always when I talk to people about shoes please try on as many as possible to find the pair that best suits your foot shape, your gait and support that you require. Thank you @underarmourca and @paradigm_pr for giving me these shoes to try out and share with you guys! #CanadaWILL @enertorglobal @teamtiux
