Have you driven to Florida? I need your opinion!

Hey all!

With my family’s upcoming drive to Florida I am looking for your opinion of the best route to get there from Ontario Canada.  I have always entered the US by car via Buffalo.  My first thought was to do that again this time however I’ve been told that the Windsor/Detroit route will be better since it is mostly highway driving.  Google maps says the drive is aprox 1hr faster (negligible I think on a 20hr drive) on the Buffalo route over the Windsor/Detroit route.  There is also the issue of traffic; I’ve heard Atlanta traffic can be horrendous.  The plan is to leave home before lunch stay in a hotel for one night then arrive at Disney before noon the next day.  I am torn!!  I’d love to have your opinion.  Please also add your comments on why you think a certain route is better at the bottom in the comments section.

Appreciate the feedback everyone!

Review @TerryFoxCanada #Oshawa #RUN

TerryFoxRun-banner-2014-EN

Well our running/race careers have officially begun!  My wife and I started off the year with the goal of running the Walt Disney World Wine and Dine half marathon.  My initial thought when I signed up for this run was that the 10k would be a great distance for us to gauge where we were at for our half marathon training.  As it got closer to the the day of the run we made the decision to do this event as a family!  We did not want to be away from the kids for more time (2 shift workers is has a big impact on family time); and we thought it would be a great day to get the kids physically active and learn more about Terry Fox before they had their event at school.  The beauty of the Terry fox run is that they really make it accessible for everyone and the whole family.   You can run, walk, roller blade, bike or wheelchair it!  This allowed us to still “hopefully” be able to run while the kids rode their bikes!

So we set the alarms got everyone up dressed and ate a quick breakfast and headed off to the park where the run was to take place.

Everyone was all smiles! 🙂

We headed off to the paved trail to begin our run!  We weren’t sure how the routes were going to be laid out but were quite happy to find out it was one route with turn around points for 2k, 5k, & 10k.  We have never done anything like this with the kids before so the plan was to make it to each turn around, see how they were doing, and gauge from there.  I’m not going to lie it was not without complaining from the kids along the way as well as a couple of spills!.  However I am super proud of the kids for completing the whole 5k route! While we were not able to continuously run the whole route and I spent some of it helping the little guy steer, it still felt amazing to get out as a family being physically active!.

There was even time for selfies along the way!

Big thanks to one of the fellow runners who offered to take this family shot

The paved route made it so easy for the bikes!  There were some hills that presented a bit of a challenge for this kids but we powered through them.  The Oshawa creak meanders back and forth across the trail which made for some amazing views!  There was ample water stations all staffed by amazing and friendly volunteers..  The reception area had t-shirts for a sale, a silent auction and lots of promo material (ribbons, stickers, tattoos).  Overall it was a great experience and we all look forward to doing this again next year supporting cancer research!

What about you! Did you run a Terry Fox run? Will you?
